Kamernet.nl, launched in 2000, has become the de facto standard for Dutch students to find find housing. Kamernet.nl was sold to Direct Wonen, a publicly traded company, in January of 2008.

With over a million user registrations and hundreds of thousands of student rooms offered for rent on Kamernet.nl, the service has helped its users save tens of millions of euros in real estate agency commissions.

Kamernet.nl is an excellent example of social entrepreneurialism, where a social problem (housing shortage) is addressed with a friendly business model.
